ANTIAGING FACIAL TREATMENTS:

Neck Lifts

What are Neck Lifts?

As we age the muscles and skin of our neck and lower face begins to sag and lose its definition. Jowls may form as muscles loosen and fat deposits along the jaw line.

Fat is also deposited under the chin causing the neck to become thick and wide.

The neck muscles weaken and separate, bands form which further weaken the shape and structure of the neck causing a "turkey gobbler" effect.

Although neck lifts can be performed alone, they are often done in conjunction with other procedures.

Neck Lift Procedure

Generally, a neck lift takes two to three hours; performed under local I.V. or General anaesthetic. The actual procedure depends upon the exact nature of the problem: loose skin, excessive fat etc

  • Lasers can be used to tighten the skin that is only a little loose
  • Liposuction is used to remove excess fat. This is accomplished through tiny incisions placed behind the ears and under the chin after which small straw-like cannulas are used to suction the fat away
  • Endoscopic surgery through a small incision placed underneath the chin may be used to tighten the neck muscles if there is not excessive skin
  • A full necklift is best when excess skin is significant. Incisions are made inconspicuously around the ears and through the tiny incision under the chin. The skin is pulled up and back and the excess skin is removed

After Care

Depending on the type and extent of the procedure, there may be some swelling and localized bruising. Both are generally gone within 4 to 10 days.

A bandage will be placed underneath your chin and may be removed the following morning.

An elastic bandage is wrapped around the neck and head and must be worn at night for 2 weeks.

Any sutures are taken out after about a week to ten days.
